Delaware State Senate Approves Sports Betting BillThe State Senate of Delaware met this past Tuesday to vote on a sports gambling bill to allow sports betting in the state. The senate wasted no time approving the bill and all that is left to do is for Jack Markell, the Governor, to sign the bill into law.
The senate voted to suspend the rule that would sent the bill to a committee for debate and instead the group debated in the full chamber. In a short time the bill was passed with a vote of 17-2. The governor is expected to sign the bill into law later this week and the bill should be in place by the time the NFL season begins.
Markell commented: “I am very pleased that the senate acted so quickly to pass the sports lottery legislation and I very much appreciate the leadership from both sides of the aisle. In particular, I want to thank Senator Tony Deluca as the lead senate sponsor and the leadership in the House of Representatives who came tougher to get us closer to our meeting our budget challenges.”
