Dover Downs Decides Against Expansion Project
The owner of the Dover Downs Hotel & Casino in Delaware was planning on a casino expansion project which would house a new sports book but now has decided against the expansion. Since the courts ruled differently on sports betting than expected, the casino would not turn a profit for expanding. Dover Downs was not the only racetrack casino planning on expanding. Two other racetrack casinos in the state were planning on adding new areas to their casinos. All of the racetracks had planned on adding Vegas-style sports betting areas but those plans were dashed back in August when the appeals court decided to limit wagering to just professional football games.
Since the sports betting will not be as lucrative, Dover Downs has stated they will not be moving forward with their expansion project. This expansion would have included a new sports book as well as a parking garage. The racetrack is now writing off $2.2 million investment for the work that had already been completed on the project.
