Football Team Owner States his Feelings on Sports Betting
Robert McNair is the owner of the Houston Texans NFL football team and he recently commented on sports betting in the NFL. The NFL is trying very hard to keep sports betting from taking place within their sport but many believe it is eventually going to happen and that includes McNair. NFL officials are worried about the spread of sports betting throughout the United States and their worries grow as Delaware has already legalized sports betting. The NFL has filed a lawsuit to try and stop the state from doing so.
Other states close to Delaware will most likely begin to offer sports betting as well if the lawsuit against Delaware is denied and the state shows profits in the sports betting industry. McNair commented: “There’s always been a very high sense of duty to protect the integrity of the game. But I think society has softened its moral concerns about gambling, by virtue of the proliferation of it. The horse is out of the barn on that one.”
But if the NFL is so concerned with sports betting then why did they affiliate themselves with state lotteries? Many of the NFL teams have partnered with state lotteries to create scratch off tickets that show the team logos on the tickets. It seems if the NFL wants the sport to stay away from gambling then they would not allow this move.
