Governor Jon Corzine Joins Legal Fight to Allow Sports Betting in New Jersey and other States
It has been officially announced that governor Jon Corzine has formally joined the legal fight to overturn the federal ban on sports betting in forty five states as well as his state, New Jersey. Just before July began Corzine announced he was giving his support to the lawsuit filed in March by Senator Raymond Lesniak. This lawsuit claims the federal prohibition of sports betting discriminates against the forty six states where it is imposed.

Corzine filed a motion on July 2nd in federal court in Trenton. The motion argued that the ban causes economic disadvantages to the state of New Jersey by prohibiting a revenue stream that is allowed in four other states.

Corzine read in a statement: “Today’s filing sends a clear message that we will not sit back and allow the selective prohibition of this law deprive New Jersey from the economic benefits sports betting can generate. We must do everything in our power to ensure both the casino and horse racing industries in New Jersey remain competitive, especially during the national economic recession.”
