International Olympic Committee working hard to prevent sports betting
Since the Winter Olympics are in full swing the International Olympic Committee is working hard to try and prevent illegal betting and match fixing from taking place during the games. The IOC has set up a system that will be monitoring the betting patterns to make sure nothing is going on.IOC president Jacques Rogge commented: “Illegal betting is as serious a threat for sport as doping. It’s a very serious concern for the future. We will do everything we can to guard against it.”
Anyone associated with the games including athletes are banned from betting on Olympic competitions. Athletes who are found to be involved with Olympic betting will be called before a disciplinary commission and will then face sanctions.
International Sports Monitoring a Swiss company will be monitoring the betting during the Vancouver Games and the 2012 London Olympics for the IOC. The monitoring group will be getting information on betting patterns from 400/450 oddsmakers, lotteries and betting firms and they will flag any irregularities for an investigation.
