Iowa Legislatures pushing for expansion in sports gamblingA proposal is working its way through the Iowa Senate that will see an expansion in sports gambling in the state if it is passed. Gamblers will be able to place bets on football, basketball and other professional sports. Several lawmakers in the state are pushing legislation that would allow sports betting in the seventeen casinos in the state.
A leader in the senate is backing the legislation which received committee approval this past Wednesday. If the legislation is passed fully then people would be able to bet on professional sports but not make bets on college or amateur events.
Roger Stewart the state senator commented that he is more receptive to legalized sports betting than other methods of gambling that are being proposed. He commented: “I’m interested in the details of it and what revenue might be generated.”
However many are against the expansion due to the fact that they do not want to see gambling in the state grow any further. Only time will tell with what lawmakers decided to do on the subject. The current session is considering a wide range of gambling proposals.
