NCAA Title Games Banned in States offering Legal Sports Betting
United States sports leagues are constantly trying to stop states from offering sports betting. The most recent move by a sports league was this past Thursday when the NCAA approved a policy that will forbid any state that offers single game betting from hosting a NCAA championship tournament or game. This policy would be infringed upon Delaware and other states that are trying to offer single game betting. The new policy does not include states that offer parlay bets, lottery tickets, sport pools or pull tabs. The presidents from all three NCAA divisions as well as the chancellors have approved the new policy. The NCAA is against sports betting because they feel the betting threatens the integrity of the games. They also believe the welfare of the athletic community and student athletes are in jeopardy.
The NCAA believes that student athletes may take money to play badly or help throw games to let those who may wager large amounts of money on games. The NCAA is worried about this because no athlete is allowed to take money for playing while in college.
