New Jersey Senator Believes Organized Crime Aided by US Sports Betting Ban
We all know the trouble the United States has been dealing with when it comes to gambling. Government officials are either for it or against it in some form or another and officials cannot seem to decide on what to do. One United States senator has raised his voice in the matter of sports betting in the United States with the belief that the ban on sports betting is aiding organized crime. New Jersey Senator, Raymond Lenik has stated that he things the ban is helping the criminal organizations. A suit has been filed by Lesniak to fight the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act. This Act prevents states from legalizing sports wagering.
Lesniak has stated that sports banning has not stopped taking place and those who are participating in sports betting and benefiting are organized criminals. If states could legalize sports betting then they could benefit from jobs, tourism and economic activity.
Estimates on how much the United States has in illegal sports gambling is as high as $380 billion and estimates for how much sports gambling could bring New Jersey alone are $10 billion a year which would equal over $100 million in state tax revenue in just one year.
