New York Sports Betting Operation Busted; Ten Arrested
Sports betting operation was busted on Monday in New York and ten men were arrested. Two other men are wanted as well who will be brought up on charges as part of a multimillion dollar sports gambling operation. Police state that the operation was being run out of a “wire room” in Queens, New York. In the past five years, the gambling operation is suspected of bringing in over $30 million in revenue. An investigation began against the men when undercover detectives opened accounts with members of the organization.
Bets were placed between the months of March and November on different sports that included college football and the NFL. Two brothers were leading the organization. The brothers and the eight other men who were arrested have pleaded not guilty to the charges. The other two men are still be sought by the police.
All the men were charged with promoting gambling and conspiracy. If charged the men could face up to four years in prison. Sports’ betting is still the main focus of police investigations more often than illegal video gambling machines and other illegal betting activities.
