Online Gaambling Employee Arrested for Identity Theft
A man who was employed by online gambling sit, BetOnSports has been arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit bank and wire fraud. This comes after he was found to be stealing personal information as a prelude to identity theft.Patrick Kalonji is from the Republic of Congo and he is being accused as using his position with BetOnSports to secure names, social security numbers and birthdates of over 150 people, as part of a group of identity thieves,
Kalonji allegedly passed on the information he got to other members of the ring who then used the info to fraudulent purchase items online. Kalonji was arrested in Philadelphia and no bail has been set and he now faces up to 30 years in prison and a fine up to $1 million dollars.
BetOnSports is based out of Costa Rica and had employed Kalonji to work in thier credit card department. They have now pledguilty to racketeering charges and has agreed with federal prosecutors to assist in a case against their founder.
