Three Pakistani cricket players are involved in a recent sports betting scandal. A former teammate of the players claims that the three players as well as a possible fourth player are involved in throwing matches to win bets.

The News of the World in Britain recently reported that Yasir Hameed a batsman for the Pakistani team stated his teammates were fixing most matches and earning thousands of dollars for each game throwed. Hameed told the tabloid the he had been offered money to throw matches but he refused to take part in the betting.

After the report surfaced, Hameed denied that he spoke with the tabloid though they have kept the interview on their website. The team captain of the Pakistani team, Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir have been banned from cricket until they are notified. The three men are facing corruption charges by the International Cricket Council for throwing matches and earning money.

The three men deny the charges that they face. The men have been accused of making illegal throws at certain points during top games so those who place bets can bet at the appropriate time to earn major cash. The men would then be paid off for throwing the match.

Wajid Shamsul Hasan the ambassador to Britain for Pakistan has stated the players are innocent and that the ICC has made a mistake. If the men are found guilty by the ICC then they could be banned for life from the sport. The three men were questioned by British police officials this past friend and their mobile phones were confiscated. In the coming weeks we should find out if the three men will be found guilty of the charges or if they will be proclaimed innocent.
