It was announced just a few short days ago that land based betting operator, Sportium, has opened their first betting shop in Madrid, Spain. Sportium was established when Cirsa and Ladbrokes decided to work together to create on betting brand and the brand plans on opening one hundred and twenty five betting outlets.

The many shops should be opened by the end of 2010 and will be a mix of both exclusive betting and points of sale. Sportium currently has fifty eight points of sale in bingo halls and arcades in the Communidad de Madrid.

The goal of 2009 is to have 100 points of sale established. Alberto Eljarrat the Chief Executive of Sportium commented to IGamingNews just a few months ago about the company’s success stating: “While other industries and retail companies are in a difficult situation with having to close stores and reducing work staff, we are hiring people every week. The demand for betting is growing, and that is how we keep expanding.”
