Sports Betting options to expand in Kenya
Sports betting has been in Kenya for decades now but the options have been on the low scale. However, gambling company Gaming International has been in the country investing money and creating sports betting options. The company has already invested over $305 million and they are now getting ready to expand to major cities in Kenya over the next six months. The facility run by Gaming International is based in Nairobi at the Odeon plaza. The Kenyan Sports Commissioner, Gordon Oluoch, officially opened the new facility and stated that the option will boost the growth of the sports industry as well as help the economy grow.
James Simon Mpanga the chief executive of Gaming International commented that the facility will offer betting facilities and the company will also offer financial sponsorship and support local initiatives in sports.
Live international football wagers will be available as well as local sports betting and virtual games. Other sports will also be covered like boxing, cricket, tennis, basketball and formula one. Gaming International first started operations in Uganda and they are hoping the move into Kenya will open up the market to grow in Rwanda, Burundi and Tanzania.
Oluoch went on to state that sports is quickly becoming a ‘vibrant’ industry and with Gaming International coming in they will help the growth especially when they target the younger generation. Oluoch stated: “I am pleased that Gaming International will not only boost the economy, but will bring in more sponsorship for sports.”
