Stanleybet Allowed to Reopen Athens OutletStanleybet opened a betting outlet in Athens, Greece and Thessaloniki last year to offer citizens different betting options. The outlets were not open long before Greece shut them down for violating a law. The law protects the Greek Organization of Football Prognostics (OPAP), who has exclusive sports betting rights to the country until 2020.
During that time Stanleybet stated that Greece’s move to close the stores violated an EU law and they asked the European Commission to move against Greece. Most recently an Athens court ruled that the Stanleybet outlet can reopen in the city.
This decision will allow Stanleybet to continue their expansion of business in Greece. The company stated in a press release: “The court issued a ruling suspending a previous decision on the closure of Stanleybet’s store in Athens.”
Stanleybet went on to state that they would continue to defend their right to offer sports betting to areas within the European Union.
