Super Bowl Bets Reach $81 Million at Nevada CasinosThe Super Bowl has come and gone but not before sports bettors could get their wagers in. Nevada casinos have reported that sports books in the area took in $81.5 million in bets for the Super Bowl and $6.68 was won according to state gambling regulators.
Around $90 million was expected to wager but the casinos did not get to that mark. The 2009 bets were the first time the betting had been below $90 million since 2004. Many in the sports betting industry were surprised that the wagers did not reach $90 million.
The executive director of race and sports for the Las Vegas Hilton, Jay Kornegay, commented that he was surprised by the low amount wagered. Kornegay stated that during the start of Super Bowl weekend they were concerned but by Sunday they were happy with the volume of bets received.
The $81 million bets is a significant drop from last year’s wagers which were $92 million. But it should come as no surprise as the economy is not in great shape and many people are saving their money.
