Two Plead Guilty in Detroit Sports Gambling Case
This past Tuesday two men pled guilty to charges that related to a multi state illegal spots betting operation. The men were involved in the operation which ran out of Michigan. The operation was mainly run from a law office as well as various bars in the area. The two men charged in the case were attorney John Steven Shelley and associate David Stronski. Both pled guilty to running an illegal sports gambling ring. Police have stated the ring brought in over $25,000 a week and police were able to seize over $250,000 while they executed a search warrant in Michigan and Florida.
Shelly and Stronski will be sentenced in Ann Arbo on June 23rd by US District Judge John O’Meara. It has been estimated that hundreds of thousands of profits were made by the betting operation. Andrew Areana the Detroit FBI Special Agent in Charge commented: “Illegal gambling is by no means a victimless crime. The FBI, with cooperation of our law enforcement partners, is committed to aggressively investigate illegal sports betting and illegal criminal enterprises.”
